CHONGQING, CHINA—Indonesia’s elite forces, the Komando Pasukan Khusus (Kopassus) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, have achieved a proud milestone. Four Kopassus paratroopers showcased their skills in 4-way and 2-way Skydiving, securing third place at the Asiania Indoor Skydiving Championship in Chongqing, China, from September 18-22, 2018.

Letkol Czi Denden Sumarlin, Head of Kopassus Information, stated that the championship was a unique experience as it was the first time the event was held inside a wind tunnel.

“The championship was attended by 29 other countries, including those with a plethora of achievements in international skydiving events, such as Qatar and the host country, China,” Denden said in a written statement received by iNews.id on Sunday (23/9/2018).

Training four times at the TNI Headquarters and six times at the Pusdiklapassus in Batujajar over two weeks was a very short period. The Kopassus soldiers had to work hard to achieve the best results.

The wind in the tunnel is extremely sensitive, requiring strong memory. Moreover, the narrow space could pose dangerous risks.

“This achievement is very impressive. Kopassus soldiers defeated skydiving teams from Latvia, Hungary, France, Israel, the Czech Republic, Poland, and several Asian countries,” Denden said.

The Kopassus contingent is part of the Persatuan Terjun Payung Angkatan Darat (PTPAD). The four Kopassus paratroopers are Sergeant Major Choliq, Sergeant Major Solihin, Sergeant Tedi M Romdon, and Corporal Pirnadi.
